We partnered up with Schools First Federal Credit Union to teach teachers and students the importance of financial literacy. In this partnership, we will teach students the benefits of a credit union, some of which include higher interest rates on deposits and lower rates on loans. We set up a workshop with them teaching high school students budgeting skills and why budgeting is necessary.
We partnered up with Young Investors society to teach high school students the importance of financial literacy and investing. The Young Investors Society provides students with many opportunities to improve investing habits, such as the Dollar-a-day challenge. In this challenge, students just try to save a single dollar everyday for a year and learn how these $365 can turn into a million over time. Some activities include investing in stocks, business workshops with professionals, and teaching upcoming members.
We competed in the 2019-2020 KWHS investment competition as a group of 4. Our team managed a portfolio of $100,000 in virtual cash and designed a investment strategy that would earn us more money. Our investment choices consisted of sectors, industries, and companies from the competitions stock list. The competition helped improve our team’s current knowledge of business, finance, and the application of investments techniques.
